Position Description

The IS Division Manager- Server Infrastructure is responsible for the strategic direction, operational oversight, and continuous improvement of Metro Nashville ITS server, storage, infrastructure, virtualization, and enterprise backup environments. The incumbent provides leadership and operational oversight for a team of fourteen infrastructure professionals, including six direct reports and eight indirect team members, supporting enterprise server, storage, virtualization, and backup services for Metro Government operations.

Typical Duties

  • Lead strategic planning, execution, and operational oversight for server, storage, virtualization, and backup services.
  • Define and maintain enterprise infrastructure architecture to support scalability, resiliency, and modernization goals.
  • Drive modernization initiatives including hyperconverged infrastructure, hybrid cloud adoption, and automation.
  • Ensure monitoring, alerting, and observability across infrastructure services.
  • Maintain lifecycle management roadmaps for hardware, firmware, operating systems, hypervisors, and storage platforms.
  • Oversee disaster recovery readiness, replication strategies, and business continuity planning.
  • Manage vendor relationships, support agreements, and enterprise licensing compliance.
  • Lead vulnerability remediation, patch management, and infrastructure security initiatives.
  • Develop and mentor technical staff through coaching, hiring, and performance management.
  • Coordinate projects and operational initiatives across ITS divisions and Metro departments.
  • Support budget planning, procurement, and fiscal accountability for division resources.
  • Develop and maintain standards, policies, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts and long-term corrective action planning.
  • Support on call and after-hours operational requirements as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in server, storage, infrastructure, or backup administration.

- Additional experience may be considered in lieu of some education.


Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Candidate must receive and maintain a passing status from Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) background check.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with hybrid cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools
  • Professional certifications in Microsoft, VMware, storage, backup, or cloud technologies
  • Experience in government or large enterprise IT environments
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in enterprise infrastructure operations.
  • Strong experience in infrastructure security, lifecycle management, and operational resiliency.
  • Experience in vendor management, budgeting, and licensing administration.
